On the CPC Saga and Buhari

I have been following the recent developments in CPC; the Kano, Katsina and Kebbi saga. I am particularly disappointed by the national chairman Barrister Rufa'i Sani Hanaga. His actions revealed vividly his original self and his desperateness to secure himself the seat of the governorship in Kano at the expense of all and sundry.

Particularly I have the feelings that Buba Galidima's expressions that he may leave the party which by implication means that Buhari may also leave the party is also wrong. This revealed nothing more than Buhari's weakness and inability to politically outmanoeuvre the people who might be plotting against him. As a chairman or member of the Board of Trustees, one is expected to be last in leaving any party as well as being the last decision one may ever make concerning the party.

I was since, critical about Buhari's decision of leaving ANPP. I wish Buhari stayed there, hijacked the party and made it served his purposes. With his reputation in Nigeria, no party Buhari cannot manoeuvre. I find it highly contradictory that opportunist moneybags most of whom are IQ wise below average can every now and then use Buhari's fame and integrity to pave their ways to government houses and House of Assembly and Buhari still cannot use the same fame to give Nigerians what he promises. Maybe Buhari needs better aids than the ones he has right now. Maybe he needs people who not just love him but also believe his ideas, maybe he needs people who share the same ideology with him and to whom the ideas are more important than personalities. Maybe Buhari needs a calibre of people who are more STRATEGIC than emotional; those who can take full advantage of the emotions of Nigerians without being emotional themselves.

Let me tell you what I believe all these while. There are only two options to lead Nigeria. The first is the mediocrity we are in now where the criminals held sway for they can touch an perfectly work on the immediate needs of the masses and the masses in their turn will be compelled to respond to them immediately and continue to hate them without being able to fight them forever as long as the system remains the way it is. The second option is whereby we can have an ideology that can appeal to the inner workings of the masses in which the masses can believe and for which they can sacrifice their lives. At that point, the masses themselves can work on promoting that ideology and make sure the ideology succeeds no matter what it cost them. In this system, personalities don't matter a lot, especially at the execution level. A personality matters only at the level of an ideologue; an image of a charismatic leader whose role is to articulate the ideology, package it in the best possible expressions with lively examples and preach it to the masses as a gospel. This person needs to preach this ideology in a way that he would appear as so much believing in the ideology as he is himself part of the ideology. The danger besieging this personality is at the point where he begins to believe that he really is an integral part of the ideology and therefore no application of the ideology is possible without him.

Why I think, Buhari keeps failing is because he stood somewhere in-between the continuum of the two extreme ends. Buhari is neither corrupt no an ideologues. It is true that Buhari has some good ideas on how to rule Nigeria, but there is a great need for these ideas to be well articulated, to be brought together to form one single and logical sequence that can be a theoretical explanation of what a Nigerian is, what are the natural and artificial features and needs of Nigeria and the Nigerians and why the proposals of that theory are NATURALLY the best options for Nigeria.

Perhaps the system is working against him and the actualisation of the his dream for Nigeria, Perhaps he has failed to articulate his vision to the masses, perhaps his programmes is not in tandem with the craving of the modern Nigerian. I believe he should first of all borrow a lead from former Northern greats like the Great Sardauna Sir Ahmadu Bello, Alh. Tafawa Balewa, Mall. Aminu Kano and there likes and copy from their experience how they united the north before looking out for the bigger picture, Nigeria.

There is every probability that Buhari's ideology in his previous party wasn't in common with that of other members of thesame party. If he is having a conflict of intrest and idea with the people of his previous party, he can go to another. Despite the fact that Buhari left ANPP, they still have followers and good members so also the party he joint (CPC).

The lack of internal democracy in party politics is killing the very root of political party's in the country it is obvious carpet crossing, lack of ideology and no clear manifesto will be the themes of those party's until internal democracy is embrace by all party's were ideology and manifesto will be the driven force.

Evelyn Morenike Adigun (kasu/09/mcm/1082) It is only in Nigeria that you find 'party prostitution' so to speak. It is only in Nigeria that a politician will promise air conditioners in the market places and the ignorant masses will clap for him. It is onlly in Nigeria that people vote for a christian/muslim in place of that person that will work for the good of the masses. Major Buhari may have failed because of the people around him who act as dream killers. Most of our aspiring leaders lack selfless service to the masses

Musa Khadijah Karimullah(Kasu/09/mcm/1062). Buhari has a good vision, but mission of the people around him is opposite. He need to be care with whom he should take his advice, he is the figure seen by the Nigerian masses as presidential material and any bad act can hinder the people's support for him. He should stick to a party and take it to it fullest, rather than decamping from one party to another.

Well, all i can contribute to this piece is just to say that Buhari is only being used by some cult-like clique who know well how to play
the game of politics in a country like Nigeria and he is yet to know this clique and their tactics.
Most of the stakeholders in the CPC are intelligence of PDP party who are employed by the party to upset and disrupted any party Buhari appears to be.
And Buhari may find it very hard to instill into the mind of the masses his ideology because of our inherent problem of tribalism and religion sensitivity even if he may articulate himself more vividly.

Buhari is a great leader but a poor politician. Most politicians around him just use him as an end to a means. Until he opens his eyes there will always be issues around him irrespective of the party he moves to. Personally i wont advice Buhari to contest 2015, it's better he grooms a younger one for the task ahead.

Like wise the masses who usually vote for him are not willing to defend their stolen mandate but as the popular saying in Hausa “Jiki magayi” meaning we are all facing the consequencies. As the writer pointed out Buhari lack ideology I agree with him partially not at all because in some instance if he do lack that, the party would have be in history for now with all the disputes in the party it still exist and secure many seats both Local,State and National. With the merger of opposition he there may be some remedy.

what i see is that the people of buhari are leaving because they are not really after promoting buhari rather after succeeding themselves, example even a local government chairman will come out of no where an just put a little picture of buhari by the corner of his poster to signify that he is with buhari just as to win the votes of buhari`s followers. buhari has already worn the hearts of many citizens of Nigeria and that is why most people pretend to be with him just to win votes from his followers and then move on leaving him behind. buhari`s goodness and plans for a better Nigeria is well known and believed in the hearts of most of the Nigerian citizens in fact including the opposition party, prominent figures and so on. the problem lies in greed, starting from the poor man, a soap or wrapper can buy a person`s vote even though he/she knows who is a true leader and who is not, going to the average man; some have misconceptions about buhari mostly Christians and that is because they are been brainwashed by the idea that buhari is going to force sharia on them.. going to the top prominent figures most of them benefit in the current system of corruption as such will there fore not support a leadership that will prevent their benefits! thus the problem is not in buhari but in the system, if people can win votes by pretending to be with him then it is very clear that he can win too but some one with power will just not allow it.

Buhari should look inward to identify his enemies of progress within his kitchen cabinet who are undermining his political party as well as his ambition to become the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Buhari’s failure could be attributed to this cabal who denied most of the popular candidates supported by the people to contest under the CPC party because of their selfish interest.
